Halloween is coming up, but so many activities are not baby and toddler appropriate (not to mention costumes that are...let's say, indiscrete).
LETS TAKE HALLOWEEN BACK FOR THE KIDS!! Here are some fun ideas to get your little one excited about Halloween and some fun for Mommies and Daddies too!
1. THROW AN OLD FASHIONED HOUSE PARTY!
For baby: Get together with your Mommy and Me class friends and come up with some fun baby activities. Orange balloons, baby treats like cut up grapes and Cherrios, plenty of cameras to take pictures of your cuties in their costumes and a fun Mommy/Baby art project! We suggest getting a book of black construction paper and making orange hand and foot prints to take home.
For Toddler: Create a space in the house where toddlers can be "wild things". (Clear out expensive/breakable items, move furniture to one side) Play dance games with fun halloween music (think Monster Mash), make caramel apples by slicing apples into toddler bites and letting them dip into caramel, make a stamp/sticker table with construction paper and Halloween stamps and stickers, and crayons or washable markers, take lots of pictures!
2. TAKE THEM TO GRANDMA AND GRANDPA FOR A SURPRISE VISIT!
It's so fun for Grandma and Grandpa to be part of the action, and little ones love to ring the doorbell and have someone they love on the other side. Before going out for the evening trick or treating, make Grandma and Grandpa's house your first visit. Grandparents live out of town? Include them by sending an emailed photo of the little ones at the door in their costumes.
3. MAKE or JOIN A HALLOWEEN PARADE!
Many neighborhoods already have parades that are so fun to watch, and especially fun to participate in. Don't have one in your area? Start your own by passing out flyers to the neighborhood kids and families.
4.PASS OUT CANDY!
Forget going door to door, let your toddler pass out the candy! Just look through your peep hole first to make sure costumes aren't too scary and enjoy watching your little one take charge. Babies can do this too, with a bit of help! Have some good friends over and hang out in the living room with some drinks and a warm fire.
5.DECORATE YOUR YARD!
Make ghosts, pumpkins and bats to decorate your yard with. Hang orange lights and let your little one paint with Halloween colors. Hang these masterpieces around the yard. They will love to be a part of this activity!
