Fun in the Sun!

It’s that time of year again! Time to bring out the beach towels, the picnic baskets and, of course, your swimsuits. But, before you and your baby go out and enjoy all of the fun, summer activities it is highly important that you protect your baby from the sun’s harmful rays. Remember that baby skin is very sensitive and burns more easily than your skin would. Even if you’re just going for a short stroll, applying sunblock is essential.

Buy a sunblock that is specifically formulated for babies with an SPF of at least 50 and keep in mind that, according to an article written for Associated Content, baby sunblock should be replaced once a year. So, if you have a bottle that’s been sitting in your bathroom cabinet for awhile, toss it.

When you’re applying sunblock, make sure to apply it all over. Even under their clothes! This way you’re covered if their shorts hike up or their socks roll down. Don’t forget to apply to the areas that are most often forgotten: your baby’s lips, ears, feet and scalp.

Once you’re out and about, make sure to reapply sunblock frequently. Keep sunblock in the glove compartment of your car and in your diaper bag or purse. This way it’s always handy.

And, don’t forget to tell grandma and grandpa where you keep the sunblock. It is important that anyone who may take your baby out to play know how important it is to keep them happy and protected.
